Welcome to the official (abridged) history of Who's Renown To document every gig during the history of the band would be a mamouth task, so we've selected some dates, gigs and events of significance. Date headings are marked in blue points of interest in dark grey & gig dates & venue in white... 1974 - 1998 Pete Hawkesworth (Bass Player) & Mick Bowen (Lead Guitarist) meet at John Taylor High School in 1974 & formed The Eagles for a period of time. The band was resurrected with drummer Glynn Stien & Guitarist/Vocalist Paul O'Donald and became "Trademark" (1983) Now managed by Colin (former drummer from Mick and The Blue Cats) & joined by rock and roll singer Clive and drummer Pete (replacing Glyn) the band performed their first gig at The Compass in Burton On Trent (1984) Performed Derby Assembly Rooms (1985) "Trademark" becomes "Coda" (1986) Pete Hawkesworth leaves the band after getting married (1989) "Coda" continues with Mick, Paul, Glynn and Carl as the line up (1990) "Coda" disbands ammicably (1996) 1998 - 2004 Pete Hawkesworth & MIck Bowen are joined by vocalist Carl James, extra guitarist Simon & drummer John Starling to form "RENOWN" (1998) "Renown" perform their first gig at Burntwood Memorial Hall (Dec 1999) First of several gigs at The Three Styrups (Brewd - Sept 2000) The Paradise Lounge (Lichfield - Feb 2001) First of numerous gigs over the years at The Cottage Of Content (Burntwood - Mar 2001) The Top Bell (Barton - Jul 2001) Bar Med at Star City (Birmingham - Aug 2001) First of several gigs at The Oak (Burntwood - Mar 2002) First of numerous gigs as Renown at The Globe (Rugeley - Jun 2002) The first charity fund raiser at Lea Hall Club (Rugeley - Mar 2003) The first of several gigs at The Four Seasons (Pelsall - May 2003) In August 2003, John Starling retires from work & leaves the band to travel. Renown are joined on drums by Spence. The Red House (Coalville - Sept 2003) Renown performs 45 minutes of The Who at Schofields in Birmingham (Dec 2003) 2004 - 2006 Renown becomes Who's Renown, a full tribute band to The Who & perform their first "Who" gig at Birmingham Tennis Courts (Mar - 2004) The Golden Lion (Wolverhampton - April 2004) Foster's Yard (Tamworth - May 2004) Trent Bridge Cricket Grounds (Nottingham - May 2004) Spence leaves the band, replaced on drums by Simon Hassle LA Rock Cafe (Caemarthan, Wales - Oct 2004) The first many gigs at The Henhouse (Hednesford - Jan 2005) "Modrophenia" at Tamworth Assembly Rooms (Mar 2005) The Diamond ft. Jimi Hendrix Experience (Mansfield - Apr 2005) First visit to The Famous Cavern Club (Liverpool - Jul 2005) Supporting The Jamm at Robin 2 (Bilston - Aug 2005) Simon Hassle leaves the band, replaced on drums by Jason Griffin Return to The Cavern Club (Liverpool - Nov 2005) The Royal Hotel (Ashby - Dec 2005) The Musicians Pub (Leicester - Jan 2006) Trent Bridge Cricket Grounds (Nottingham - Feb 2006) The Hark To Towler (Manchester - Apr 2006) The Leopard (Tutbury - May 2006) The Actress And Bishop (Birmingham - May 2006) Who's Renown's first Scooter Rally at The Inn On The Park (Skegness - Jun 2006) The Spice Island (London - Jul 2006) "On The Beach" Festival (Southport - Jul 2006) Jason Griffin leaves the band as does guitarist Mick Bowen. Lead singer Carl James takes a break due to health problems. The band stops. (Aug 2006) 2006 - Present John Starling returns on drums. Pete Hawkesworth and Carl James recruit guitarist Adrian Sharratt for a while. Who's Renown return to the studio for a restructuring period.
